Eden Chess Union is a proud and dynamic region with a rich legacy, having hosted the first-ever SA Open in 1962 at the Wilderness Hotel in the Western Cape.

Today, we are home to 1,311 players across 15 affiliated clubs, with a strong and growing community made up of 60% male and 40% female players.

As one of the largest and most active regions in the country, our players have achieved honours at Western Cape, national, and international (Protea) levels. Spanning an area of 23,331 square kilometres, we are united by strong values and a shared belief that chess truly makes a difference in people’s lives.
